Hello! I hope that you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. This update will be fairly brief, but there are still some important things to share.
In math, tomorrow, we will be submitting the final benchmark test for the year. There are 45 questions, and as we've done some review, I've been pleased to see that most of the students have done very well at learning the new concepts that we've taught this year. Since we have two more days in class this week, I'll be working on geometry in ch. 14. In language arts, we learned about Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller. I had the students write a couple of paragraphs about how their personal drive and dedication can lead to their independence. Tomorrow and Thursday, we will be writing a friendly letter to the new 4th grader in my 19-20 class with their same number. I will ask them to offer advice, as well as words of wisdom from someone who made it through the year. In August, I'll pass the letters out, so that should be fun. By the way, the book report trailers have been fantastic! We have just a few more to watch tomorrow. In science, we have continued our work with animal adaptation. Today we learned about how moths changed wing color as the industrial revolution began from white to a mottled grey as the skies got smokier. This Thursday is Field Day. Please have students wear their Flyers shirts, or a navy shirt. On Friday we will be going on our walking field trip to Sagewood and then to eat lunch by the lake. 9:30-12:30. Please make sure that your student is on time!! Next week, we will be having a final class party on June 4. It will involve water and Mr. and Mrs. Schaber will be providing ice cream and cake for the treats. Please let me know if you would rather your student eat something different. I think that's it for this week. It's going too fast!

Hello,
I hope this post finds you well. This is the last full week of this school year! I can hardly believe it, but as I have been preparing the end-of-year slideshow, I can see just how much these students have grown up! I'm so proud of all that they have accomplished this year. First things first. Tomorrow, I will be sending home a progress report. ELA has decided to replace the 4th term conferences with progress reports, and I'll be interested to see how you like this new format. The progress reports show this term's current grades, SRI test scores, and F&P scores from August until now, Utah Compose scores, Lexia level, math facts fluency level, ALEKS pie completion, and a little note from me. I hope that you'll contact me should you have any questions regarding these progress reports. Please go over each section and celebrate the growth shown by your student over the year! In math, we are reviewing for the 4th term benchmark, as well as studying chapter 13, area and perimeter. Our last test average for ch. 12 was 87%. Nice work everyone! In language arts, we are finishing up Lexia and reading groups (for those that are finished with Lexia). This week we will be reviewing important concepts that we've learned throughout the year. We are winding down, but our language arts instruction is still very much in force. Please remember that the book reports are due on 5/28. All information can be found on this website. We have taken the first half of the science RISE. Many of the students have said that they felt fairly confident. We will finish up this week with animal classification. Your students will be singing a song about the 7 classifications, so make sure to let them brag about what they know! The County Reports have been great so far! It's so fun to watch the students present and ask each other questions about their counties. Be sure to come see our hallway during this Thursday's History Fair! Please check the "What's Coming Up" tab to see about important performances and times coming this week! Thanks for all you do!! Welcome to this beautiful week! I hope that all of the mothers reading this had a fantastic Mother's Day. You moms play such a vital role in raising the fantastic students who walk through my door each morning. Thank you for all you do! I would also like to thank all of you for the absolutely wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week. The gifts and notes were priceless.
Last week, because of language arts RISE testing, we didn't get to immerse ourselves in last week's story selection, vocabulary words, and spelling, so we'll be revisiting that this week. I have reset Spelling City, and the spelling lists will be the same lists I passed out last Monday. We will also be working on the Scholastic coding and story writing project I emailed last Thursday. We are taking the math RISE today and Wednesday, and on the other days will be focusing on the metric system, and converting metric units of length and mass. Last week's ch. 11 test showed a class average of 87%. Great job! In history we will be doing some last-minute studying for the Great Utahn Award final that I will be giving this Wednesday. It can also be downloaded from the drop-down menu on the homepage. Everyone will be receiving a score, and those who get 100% correct answers AND spelling will receive special recognition at our 4th grade program coming on 5/24. In science, we will be finishing up with our study of the characteristics of Utah's different types of deserts. We will also continue learning about the adaptations of desert plants and animals. The science RISE will be next Monday and Wednesday from 9-10, so make sure your students are on time. Our Tanner Dance Informance will be this Friday, May 17, at noon in the theatre. Hope to see you all there! That's all for this week. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Hello Flyer Parents,
Welcome to a new week. The year is quickly winding down, and I am amazed at how much these kids have grown (academically and physically) this year! The students in our class are fantastic kids and I have so enjoyed working with them. I hope that you are checking the "What's Coming Up" tab so that you can see the important dates and times for performances and activities we'll be doing for the month of May. In math, we will be finishing up with customary measurement and moving into metric measurement. In the next few days, I will be sending home a review sheet for the ch. 11 test. There are many students who are close to completing their 4th grade ALEKS pie. Mrs. Meredith and I will be having a "Minute to Win It" party this Friday for all students who have completed 100%. I shared this with the students on Friday, wanted to let you know, as well. Final grades won't be issued for 100% completion of ALEKS until 6/3/19. We will be taking the math RISE test on two dates next week. We have completed 1/2 language arts RISE tests. The final language arts test will be taken this coming Wednesday. We will be completing the final story selection of the year this week. We will be reading about Michael Collins and the Apollo 11 space mission. This unit will focus on using graphic sources to find information, capitalizing titles correctly, and the vocab will be on multiple-meaning words. Spelling lists will be coming home today. Next week we have a chance to begin a novel study. I reserved a class set of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. More info to come next week. If you click on the Book Reports tab, you will find information about the Term 4 book report. The students should be almost finished with their books. As you most likely know, the book can be any genre, as long as it is at least 100 pages long. Book reports are due on 5/31. In history, the Great Utahn final test will be given on 5/17. All students will be taking the test, and those who get 100% (spelling included) will receive a special award at our 4th grade program. The study guide is found on this website, and I have loaded a special assignment on Spelling City that contains the proper spellings of all 29 counties and some of the Utah facts they need to know. The Utah County project is due on 5/20, and will be displayed in our hallway during ELA's History Fair. Speaking of the History Fair, the 4th grade has the opportunity to perform in the theatre for all those in attendance. My class will be wearing their Flyers shirts or a navy shirt. Our performance tie is 6:05-6:25 and we'll be meeting in the cafeteria at 5:55. The 4th Grade Program will be held on 5/24 in the theatre, and students should wear their Flyers shirts or a navy collared shirt. Please see the "What's Coming Up" section on this website. In science, we will continue our study of Utah's wetlands. The science RISE test will be taken on two dates in 2 weeks. That's it for this week. Have a wonderful day!! |
