Hello everyone! Welcome to a new week. I hope that your break was especially restful. Let’s jump right in!
Language Arts- Because this is a short week, there is a special impetus to complete our class Lexia minutes. I will be working as hard as I can to finish the minutes in class, but most of you should encourage your student to work at home so that we can comfortably finish. Also, because of the short week, spelling practice is especially important. The words and games can all be found on Spellingcity.com. This week, our story is an expository text entitled “Horse Heroes” and the question of the week focuses on how animals and humans work together. We will practice reading with expression, and we will be learning the difference between fact and opinion. For grammar, we will be practicing with possessive nouns. Math- I am happy to report that our class averaged 83% for our 1st Benchmark score. The benchmark covered chapters 1-3, and we started chapter 4 right before the break. We are starting with multiplication practice, and I can’t stress enough how important it is for your students to know those facts. Please encourage your students to spend at least 15 minutes per day on Reflex as part of their homework. We will have our final class pizza party as a reward on 11/8. I promise that knowing these facts will literally change everything about your students’ ability to progress in their math! Science/Utah History- Because this is an unusual week, with a couple of assemblies, GAP Art, and a class party, we will only be able to have science and Utah History once this week. This will be a review week for both subjects, and I may even be able to fit a STEAM project in. :) Please review the costume policies for this coming Halloween as outlined in the various emails and newsletters sent by Admin. Also, if you signed up for a food assignment for this Thursday’s class party, you may send it Thursday morning. Thanks!!! I welcome any questions, comments or concerns. Have a great week!!

Welcome to the last week before our fall break! I hope that you have something peaceful and relaxing in store.
Math- We won the weekly Reflex Cup for the second week in a row! I am so thrilled to win, but I am more thrilled that your students are becoming so proficient in their multiplication and division facts. Please keep it up! We have a few weeks left to learn these facts before we jump into the kind of math that will really challenge most of my students. We took our ch. 3 math test today, with a class average of 87%. I am so thrilled. Please keep up the fantastic support at home. This week, we will be taking the Term 1 Benchmark, which is a review of chapters 1-3. I will send home a review packet, and I will also do some review in class. We will start Ch. 4 after the review and benchmark are complete. Language Arts- Our story selection this week is Scene Two, which is a dramatic play. I will be organizing the students into groups and they will be performing the play, following stage directions, and reading with feeling. We will be working on drawing conclusions from context clues in the text, and we will also be focusing on asking questions about the text as we read. We will also be doing a little work with poetry. The students have already learned the poem, “Nature’s First Green is Gold” by Robert Frost. This month, we will be learning a Halloween poem and song, “The Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll. Please keep up the good work with Lexia and Spelling City. Spelling and vocabulary scores are getting better. One last thing. All of the details for our Term 1 book report are found on this website. They are due on 10/28. Science- I will be posting some pictures from our Force and Motion activities from last Thursday on Dojo. We will be continuing our work with Newton’s laws of motion. I will be doing a review tomorrow, and students will be taking a quiz. After that, we’ll be moving to Newton’s second law which states that the acceleration of an object is dependent upon two variables - the net force acting upon the object and the mass of the object. Utah History- We finished our topographical maps today! They look amazing. I had students paint their maps this morning, so that the paint will dry and they can bring them home to show you all. There are so many fantastic details, so ask questions about the landforms, regions, colors, and bodies of water. Have a great week!! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Welcome to a new week! I really enjoyed meeting with you last week. Our class will have 100% conference attendance after Wednesday. Thank you!! Our field trip is coming up this Wednesday, 10/9. It appears that day will be chilly, so make sure to dress your child appropriately. We will be outside all day. If you have not yet filled out a Permission Click form for your child, please do so. (You may scroll down to the end of last week's post to find that Permission Click document. Please note that at this point all students must bring a lunch from home if you didn't specify a school lunch in Permission Click by last week.
Math- We will be finishing up with Ch. 3 this week. It looks like our test will be taken next Monday, 10/14. I will send home the 3 page chapter review pages to study this weekend, so keep an eye out for that. We won the weekly Reflex Cup trophy this week!! Tell your students to keep going with their math facts on Reflex. Double digit multiplication and long division will be here in November! Language Arts- Our story selection this week is titled “Coyote School News”. We will be focusing on drawing conclusions, and similes and metaphors. The Reading Street spelling words will be plural words. Make sure that your students are completing their assigned Lexia minutes and studying their spelling and vocabulary words. Please keep an eye on the due date for this term's book report. You can find information about book reports under the "Curriculum" and "Language Arts" tab. Science- We will be continuing our work with motion and Newton’s Laws. On Thursday this week, I’d like to have an outdoor activity during science between 2-3. I could use 2-3 parent volunteers to help guide the activities. Email me if you’re available. Utah History- We will be continuing our study of Utah’s 3 Regions. It’s almost time for us to make our salt dough maps. I need each student to bring in an 8x10 piece of sturdy cardboard with a notch cut out (in the shape of Utah) and some pre-made salt dough by Friday. We will be making our topographical maps on Friday, they will dry all weekend, and then we will paint them on Monday. Below is a great recipe, or use one that you like. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/240641/salt-dough/ Thanks for everything! Email with any questions. |
