Hello and welcome to another week! I hope that you had a nice Martin Luther King Jr. day! This week for language arts we will be reading about the pink dolphins found in Brazil in a story called Encantado. We will be focusing different types of pronouns as well as word choice in writing. The spelling list this week will be words with the schwa in the final syllable. Samuel Pettit finished Lexia, and there are many students who are moving along at a steady clip! My goal is to have as many students as possible complete Lexia before they move to 5th grade, and I think most of my students are within range to reach that goal. Book reports are due on 1/25. You may click here to print out instructions and pages. I will provide printouts at school for students who haven’t yet printed it starting on Tuesday.
In math we have moved from long division to patterns and sequences. Some of the story problems can be quite challenging, but for the most part, this chapter is a lot of fun and students seem to enjoy the number puzzles. Keep going with ALEKS and Reflex at home. Each student should be doing 15 minutes of math at home. There were a few more items that we wanted to teach in science this week, so we’ll begin a new rotation starting on Tuesday. My class will be with Mrs. Meredith, learning about weather and the water cycle. In history we’ll be moving from Native Americans to the Mountain Men that helped explore Utah. For those of you with children who have been in ELA’s 4th grade, you will know what I’m talking about when I say that the Mountain Man Rendezvous is coming on March 8. Much more information to come about this great 4th grade tradition. Lastly, here are some items that are coming up: Tuesday, 1/22-Museum on the Move is coming to do an in-school field trip focusing on animal adaptations. Next Friday, 1/25-Day in history focusing on Ancient Greece. Your student may dress in a costume or wear regular spirit dress. Students will be immersed in Greek history, art, mythology and architecture while they rotate amongst the 4th grade team. January 30-31-Winter conferences. Please sign up here. Have a great week! Please keep an eye on Aspire so your student doesn’t end up at the end of Term 3 with lots of missing assignments. It’s a lot easier to stay on top of homework. One last thing. This week is School Choice Appreciation Week. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for choosing Early Light Academy. We LOVE our Early Light families and students, and appreciate the choice you've made to send your students here for a great education. Have a great week!!
