Hello Flyer Parents!
Welcome to a new week. This week is student-led conferences, so if you'd still like to sign up for an appt., please click here. Since it is a short week, we won't be doing spelling or vocabulary lists. Instead, I have made two new lists on Spelling City that consist of possessive and personal pronouns, which we'll be working on this week. We will be doing a poetry unit about Haiku, as well as presenting our book reports, which were due last Friday. Also, please make sure that your student completes all of his or her Lexia minutes by Friday, so they can get their total points. Speaking of Lexia, Ella Simar, Alec Skillin, Rockwell Dansie, and Ezra Dansie have completed level 18, and have finished the course. Congratulations! In Math, we are working on Order of Operations. Today, I taught "PEMDAS" to the students as a memory device. Many of you will remember "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally". It stands for Parentheses, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction, (work left to right). It's so exciting for me to see the students take their first steps into algebra, knowing that they will be using these tools for the rest of their lives. Please ask your students about their ALEKS completion. Each student should be at least at 50%, in order to finish their pie by the end of the year. They'll have some catch up to do if they're behind. In history we'll be going into more depth about Mountain Men in Utah, and the Mountain Man Rendezvous coming up on March 8. I will be providing more information about this 4th grade tradition in the coming weeks. Please remember that this Friday is a teacher work day and there will be no school. That's about all for this week. I'm really looking forward to seeing you this week at conferences.
