Hello Flyer Parents,
Welcome to another great week! For language arts, we will be reading a story selection about the discovery of Machu Picchu. It is a biography, and we will be focusing on comparing and contrasting information and visualization while reading. The spelling words are double consonant, one sound words, and they will be coming home today in the red homework folders. This is the final week of a nationwide Lexia contest we have been in to be one of the top 7 classes in terms of Lexia minutes and topics gained. The winners get a $100 class pizza party! The students told me that there was no way they could compete, but I assured them that we can always do our best and maybe we’ll win! On an awesome note, our class had 100% completion of Lexia minutes by Thursday! Keep up the good work. We will be taking a test on ch. 8 in math tomorrow. Ch. 9 continues with adding and subtracting like fractions and mixed fractions, so that should be fairly simple for this group. Hopefully, we’ll finish that by the end of the week or early next week. Keep up the ALEKS and Reflex! In history, we’ll be starting a pioneer simulation exercise by putting the students into families. They will be working together to make decisions that determine whether or not they make it to the Salt Lake Valley...or not. The kids always love this, and you’ll probably be hearing about their families and new pioneer names. This Friday is the Rendezvous. Please make sure that your student has an costume and a craft to sell at the trading post. Here is a sign-up spreadsheet to help provide “vittles” for the day. FYI-Students will still be having lunch in the cafeteria, so the provided food will be a snack. Please send any volunteered items on Friday morning. The students took a Mastery Connect test on the water cycle last week. Mrs. Meredith has been working on getting them graded, and we’ll get them into ASPIRE as soon as possible. That’s about it for this post. I really love this class! They are kind to each other (most of the time), and they work hard in class and at home. They are fantastic kids, and I really enjoy my time with them each day. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Have a great week!
